I was reading Tim Wilson's blog looking for information about purchasing equipment when I came across a couple postings I will republish - one a list of ways podcasts can be used in the classroom and the other an interesting way of encouraging administrators to drink the podcast Kool-Aid.

I posted a while ago about my new podcasting microphone, but I thought I’d post an updated photo of the podcave. If you click through to the photo on Flickr you’ll be able to see some additional information about the equipment. The new gear includes a Heil PL-2 boom, Electro-Voice RE20, and Model 309 shockmount.

I joined Steve Burt of Clarity as well as Tim Lauer of Meriwether Lewis Elementary School in Portland and Tim Wilson, newly named Director of Technology in the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District in Buffalo, MN in a podcast last night - my first - conducted via iChat. Steve recorded the discussion using GarageBand which is posted on the Ed Tech Coast to Coast section of the Clarity website as well as at the head of this posting.  Click the Download the Podcast link to hear the show.  The discussion seemed to center around the recently passed DOPA legislation.  From Wikidedia:

The Deleting Online Predators Act of 2006^[1] (DOPA) is a bill (H.R. 5319) brought before the United States House of Representatives on May 9, 2006 by Representative Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA). The proposed act would amend the Communications Act of 1934, requiring schools and libraries that receive E-rate funding to protect minors from online predators in the absence of parental supervision when using "Commercial Social Networking Websites" and "Chat Rooms". The act would prohibit schools and libraries from providing access to these types of websites to minors. The act also requires the institutions to be capable of disabling the restrictions for "use by an adult or by minors with adult supervision to enable access for educational purposes."
